Sub-Races are a sub-division
of Root Races. As
such, everything in the article on
Root Races about the
origin of the term and its uses applies also
to Sub-Races. Each Root
Race is divided into
seven Sub-Races. The exact length of a Sub-Race
in Theosophy varies, with Blavatsky having given
numbers as various as 210,000 years and 30,000
years.
Steiner considered
the term "Sub-Race" to be misleading since it
implied a racial character to cultural development,
so he renamed the time periods "Cultural Epochs".
